Love-hate relationship

You know, I've come to realize something --- I am willing to put up with instability if it means there's less hassle with installing new software and hardware. I love Linux to death, and I swear by its unshakable rock foundation, but it doesn't change the fact that nearly every piece of popular hardware out there is meant to work best for or exclusively in Windows. Such is the nature of an almost-but-not-quite monopoly through insane market share, but whatever.

That being said, I've decided to install Windows again, and preferably Win2k so I don't get harassed by the activation crap that XP is subject to. My favorite *nix tools have all been ported to Win32, I am wise in the ways of avoiding the common pitfalls that cause BSODs --- though even I can't help the ones caused by bad software --- and with the ext2/3 driver now available I don't even have to reformat my /home partition to migrate. The hassle is gone.

I'll miss the ability to modify and compile whatever the hell I want, but I guess it's a sacrifice worth making if it means I can once again be on the bleeding edge of New Technological Stuff.

(I'm looking at you, Adobe-media. Macrodobe. Whatever. You kept promising us Linux freaks an updated version of Flash, and now we've skipped two whole version numbers with nothing to show for it. Ironically, I know why you're having trouble with the port. It's the same reason I'm going back.

STILL. >:| )

What can I say? I've become less patient over the years.
