Move like you've got a purpose
I really shouldn't kid myself: I am, I will be, and I always have been an illustrator type of guy. I've done next to nothing with design and love things like ink and Speedball pens a little too much. That poses a problem, however. Illustration isn't entirely marketable. Design is in high demand, because if you can design, you can make websites. You can make commercial packaging. You can make T-shirts. What can you do if you draw really, really well?
Go into comics, I suppose. But where the hell do I start? I've already got my own personal projects, if I ever actually upload anything. I tried searching on Monster and CareerBuilder for anything in the way of traditional art, illustration, understudy ... ing -- anything. You know what I got? Results for telemarketing, sales and tech support.
Whoopdee-fucking-doo.
I suppose this blog now has purpose: it will follow the efforts of an aspiring dude with a pen as he tries to break into the industry. He has no formal art degree, he has no guidance, he has no presence, he has no clue. He has a portfolio which needs updating. He has talent. He has an ego. He has a degree in a field that is only barely related to what he wants out of life.
He doesn't have much else, but damn if that will stop him.
Keep an eye on the main website. Things will change. Whether they're for the better is anybody's guess, but things will change. I've got nothing to do otherwise.
